BreakOut Objectives

This event is designed to give emerging talent the opportunities to reach a wider audience and generate the exposure that is needed to successfully develop their U.K. and international music profile.

The shows and festival provide each Artist with professional support and a platform to reduce the gap between the band and the industry. This has been achieved by working in close partnership with the most prestigious record labels, publishers, studios, venues, service providers, press and media companies, who play a key role in the development of international bands.

There is also an array of “music prizes” aimed at delivering the tools and resources necessary to make a real impression in the business. This event proposes to accomplish 4 key goals:

• Creating new opportunities for Industry exposure
- Increase the Band's UK and International profile
• Improve the Band's resources crucial to achieving their musical goals
• Deliver a results orientated brand of shows and a Festival where the Artist is the focal point

Live Shows

 The Audition Stages

2 bands progress from the Live Audition stage to the Semifinal stage through an audience vote, cast after each band’s performance, and a Musicians vote, cast by all the acts performing on the night. The Band may progress via one or a combination of these.

 The Semifinal Stages

Like the Audition stage, 2 bands will progress from the Semifinal to the BreakOut Final via an audience vote, musicians vote and A&R vote (votes cast by A&R’s will carry 15 votes and the musicians votes 5, which will be added to the total audience vote) The bands with the highest accumulative votes from the Semifinal show will progress to the BreakOut Final (London) or Regional final.

 The UK BreakOut Final Showcase

The International BreakOut Finals (London and Regional) will run in the same format of the preceding stages. The top 5 bands with the highest votes (audience and musicians) will be put to a panel of technical and music judges who will decide who are the best two who will perform at the breakout festival in the Maldives. The objective of this show is to find the most complete bands in terms of music, song catalogue, audience draw, musical ability and predisposition to a music career.

The Regional winners will perform at the UK Final and will be put straight to the judges.

Web Voting/Text

The band with the highest web votes (UK or International) will also progress from the Audition to the Semifinals and from the Semifinal to the Final.

 BreakOut Festival Maldives

The 2 winning bands will perform at the BreakOut Festival in the Maldives between the 13th and 16th October 2009.

 The Panels Of Judges

The technical panel will comprise of endorsement managers and endorsed musicians drawn from the pool of our music sponsors. Their role is to adjudicate the best individual musicians and award them with musical instruments.

 The Music Panel

Will comprise of record company representatives, A&R’s, music media and partners of the various international festivals. They will be deciding 2 the best bands but will also be scouting for possible bands to be signed and for placements in their and our festivals/tours.

Live Broadcast & International Exposure

The bands reaching the final will be recorded at the Semifinal stage and loaded onto our media sponsors site (TVM & MTV Asia (subject to release conditions)) where the international audiences will have the opportunity to vote for each band. This vote if the highest on the night will send the band straight to the judges.

The Event

Billing

The company will adopt a rule of first come first served basis when booking bands for the Audition stage. Subsequent stages will be billed according to the votes accumulated by the band in the previous round.

Venues
The Events will take place in a professional touring standard venue with full PA and lighting. The company will cover all venue hire costs, staffing, press and production of the event.

Technical Staff
The technicians on the night will have produced shows for some of the biggest touring acts and therefore you can rely on there being a great front house and stage sound as well as a professional show.

Set Time
Normally, you will be required to perform a 25 mins set of original music through the Audition and semifinal stages, with a 20min set time for the Breakout showcase Final.

Backline
At every show we will provide the band with a sponsored 5/6 piece Mapex Pro M Series drum kit, Sabian cymbals, Ampeg 8x10 or 4x10 bass amp with SVT Classic heads. Bands should bring their own Guitar heads to be used through the supplied 4x12 cabs and any other instruments used during the set. All other instruments not included in this list will have to be provided by the band.

Sound Checks
Sound checks will work in reverse order of billing and will be between 10 and 15mins in duration (please note that this is dependant on the sound restrictions or curfews of the venue). Bands who are not punctual or do not answer their stage call will forfeit their sound-check.

Artist Passes
Bands will be issued with back stage and changing room passes, which may not be transferred to anyone.

Conduct
You must be prepared to operate like a professional Artist/Band and work to strict sound check/stage times, observing strict curfews along the way. Jar Music Group or its partners will not tolerate any behavior that compromises our staff’s ability to perform their duties.
